Was their a good reason as why they quit stocking perch , Or was it that the commercial fishing was gone it would cure the issue . I used to catch a few perch every year with the yellow tags . Seems as if they need help regaining numbers on the south end of the lake .

Those actually weren't stocked perch, they were wild perch captured and floy-tagged to attempt a lakewide movement and survival study of adult perch. This would have been the late 1990s. Tag return was too low to draw many solid conclusions from that study

There has never been any serious stocking of perch in Lake Michigan. Perch stocking would be somewhat akin to trying to raise the lake levels with a few garden hoses. Not terribly practical. Perch are boom or bust spawners, and their reproductive capacity is very high IF conditions line up right (see: 2015 yearclass, all the 3-5 inchers swarming around this year).

Catchable perch numbers are going to really surge in a couple years as the 2015 and 2016 year classes grow past 8 inches
