Burns Ditch Conditions
The ditch current is moving pretty quick I was out there Thursday and my GPS was reading close to 6 mph without any motors running. Also, today there was a big log jam on the train bridge as soon as you exit the Marinas so until this is broken free I would consider the ditch not accessible.
Side Note we spoke to Pastrick in East Chicago and as of 2/21/18 they are ice free

I think it would be the Portage Port Authority who would take care of that.

The log jam is at the Route 12 bridge right at the exit of the Marina's. I am pretty sure that the port authority is responsible to keep it open through the mouth of the portage marina as part of the federal waterway so it may get taken care of a little faster than the jam in the salt a few years back. That work is contact out I am sure so hope they have them on speed dial. Definitely impassable at this point, I was down there this morning and you can see it really good from the marina parking lot.

I stopped at the marina office this afternoon to get my season pass and asked about the jam. The lady behind the desk said that it was the city's job to clear it and she wasn't privy to when it would be cleared but the city has someone on it. I would assume with the amount of water flowing right now it'll have to wait til the current slows.

Jums: When you talked with Pastrick peeps did they say anything about it being open for boat launching? They usually try to put off opening as long as possible.

I launched out of Patrick Friday morning. I'm pretty sure I was the first boat to launch since I had to move the barricades at the ramp myself. But by the middle of the day there were a handful of trailers there.. Lake looked good besides all the mud coming from the tributaries making Gary unable to fish but ice bergs were few and far between.
