May be a stupid question, but would glow-in-the-dark tackle be a MUST have for the midnight fishing? I would imagine it would increase the chances of catching something...never did a night fish like this without setting jug/limblines. Guess it can't hurt to add more tackle to the cause...
Anyone have experience with fishing during that time of day?

Also, I have not been able to locate any 'law' about 10mph in LM after dark. Where can I find that? I typically follow the rule of 'idle speed' from dusk to dawn, but know different bodies of water have different rules.

Operating in Excess of 10-Miles-Per-Hour at Night:
On Indiana waters (including the open waters of Lake Michigan), a person who operates a boat at greater than ten miles per hour, between sunset and sunrise, commits a Class C infraction. IC 14-15-3-8. As indicated in the following section, within 200 feet of the Lake Michigan shoreline, a person must not operate a boat (day or night) in excess of five miles per hour.

Can answer your questions - No you don't need glows to catch fish at night, but just like in the day they will have a preference.
sometimes glows do pay off better. They are good go to baits on those cloudy days also. Take one and put it under a black light, they have UV qualities.

Once you get out to the state line, you can go faster. I dont think Michigan has that law, or the hundreds of boats I witness running in at night in ludington are breaking the law right in front of the coast guard.

We should check into the MI law for sure. It didnt even cross my mind that it may be differnt.

As far as glow baits go, i have done minimal trolling after dark but i have gotten fish on both glow and non glow baits. I would certainly plan on having them in the mix :cheer:

Another question - I assume the $20 is just for tournament and does not include the $10 Launch fee? Just want to verify so I don't end up paying an extra $10 if I am mistaken

Yes, launch fee is separate from the tournament fee.

Also just in case people dont know, and you tend to launch in portage - get an annual launch pass - well worth it. I primarily launch in portage because its the easiest to get to, nice area, and no riff raff. But the recreational boaters still leave some to be desired lol.

Best chance at the tournament appears to be the target date of Friday the 3rd as planned. We will have a better idea of the weather by wednesday.
