Headed to Black Ditch and started in 25-30 FOW of water. Moved around a lot and didn’t get a single bite until about 10 when we moved deeper to 35 FOW, at which point we realized we left the friggin perch basket in the dock box... decent fish, but as slow as it was we just tossed it back thinking we’d probably call it quits soon. Then we started picking up doubles on our drift and decided that we were going to convert a soft side cooler in to a fish box... at this point we had released 6 or so dinks and two more good ones. Kept 4 good fish and 2 smaller ones that swallowed hooks and released another dozen or so dinks.

We stayed between MT. Baldy and Black Ditch for the most part the whole day. Slow but still a nice day on the water.

Congrats on your Perch Derby win! If I could have convinced my buddy to get up that early to motor up there in time for sign up we would have probably entered and then still lost to ya!

We just got lucky and found the 1 big fish, we pretty much stayed in 39 to 40 ft of water last part of the day hoping and doing the fish
chant, never marked a fish out there so they were rouge fish lol. Just a good time and the first time we ever won.
Your always welcome to fish.

I heard that some folks were getting bigger perch in that depth in MC even though they weren’t really marking them. We watched a couple boats sit down out in that depth and maybe deeper while we were fishing 35 FOW or less and wondered what they were up to.

Might try to head out on Sunday if the weather holds to the current NOAA forecast.

The fish chant / fish call is a real thing! On my boat it usually involves walking away from the rods to eat a sandwich or to take a piss. Seems like it’s the best odds for a rod to go off!
