Help me out with leadcore

I am looking to get two rods set up with lead. I have the largest size cabelas depth master reels made i just have a few questions.

1 how long of a leader from the end of the lead to the bait do you use?

2 what kind of connection do you use for making the connection to the leader and backing line on either ends of the lead.

3 since I will only have two rods what two leingths of lead should I use? I was thinking a 5 and a 7 color but I do not know. These will be planer board rigs as well.

4 how far behind the last color of lead core do you put the planet board? I know you have to clip it onto the backing just not sure how far up the backing I should go.

Any help will be appreciated. I know the guy I bought these reels from had one setup with 10 colors and one with 7. I would just like some expert advice as what to run. I have two riggers and two dipsy setups already. If that has any bearing on what I should make of these two setups.

1- I for 1 don't like real long leads on the long lines. They tend to bow up and you just don't keep the depth where you want it. I like 25' to about 35' of fluorocarbon.
2- There is a knot for leadcore. I'm not sure of the name but it's for leadcore only. You have to slide back the outer braid, then break off the lead. Insert the leader into the braided part of the leadcore and push it through the braid so it's outside. Then a simple square knot does the trick. The trick is to slide the braid back the correct distance. I like 3" to 4". Like the old Chinese finger toy. The harder you pull the tighter it gets.
3- Length depends on where your going to fish. So far this year we have been running only 8 & 6 color rigs. Both on 1 side. We run copper on the other.
4- Normally I like to keep it just after the lead. This way you can keep an eye on where it rubs on your main line. It will get nicks from the board and will have to be retied. There are times however when I'll try to get it deeper and will add some line before hooking on the board.

I like 3 and 7 color, A three keep baits from riding on top of the water, great for steelys.

Just yesterday I got a nice laker on 3 color and a golden crush. (hoping for a steelhead).

See, if you'd subscribe to Great Lakes Angler magazine, you'd know all these answers already and more! Just kidding - but you should.

Obviously if you were not moving the leadcore would just pile under the boat. If you are going 20 mph it would be skipping on the surface. If you are pulling a diving lure, it will go deeper, a spoon, less deep, a flasher or dodger, even less deep, a quarter sheet of plywood and it won't dive at all.

So it all depends. five feet per color is probably at "walleye" speeds around 1.5 mph. At 2.5 you are lucky to get 4 feet per color and less if pulling a dodger/flasher or quarter piece of plywood. i've caught fish with 2s, 10s and all in between.

We have been lucky with the lake slow to warm this year that the 3s to 7 colors are still in the game (except for steelheads).

I use Offshore Guppy weights (snap weights) to make 5 colors go deep as 8 colors and sevens to go as deep as 10s. (This was also in the magazine a few issues ago.) When the fish go deeper than 10 colors will reach, a two ounce guppy pinched on at the five color mark will get the 10 an extra 10 to 20 feet - unless you are trolling 20 mph or dragging a quarter sheet of plywood.

So I have a 200yd spool of the Tufline thin leadcore coming. I noticed that people have a hard time threading the leader into the sheathe on this brand because it’s so thin what is another knot I can use to make my leader connection. I have a lot of 30lb florocarbon and don’t want to go out and buy anothe spoil of lighter line.
