I’m getting my boat out for the first fishing trip in the am. Planning on launching out of portage. Any advice on where to start. Location, depth, colors, etc. last year was my first year learning how to fish the south end and I had decent success but I wasn’t out this early so any help is appreciated. I have been reading posts and seem to have the equipment and lures but any advice is appreciated. Thank you

You can start around the mouth of the ditch, or run over toward Gary. work anywhere from 15 to 40 FOW and once you find fish just keep working the same general area. My go to would be crankbaits in red / orange / fire tiger color patterns. I typically use thin fins, bay rats, and flicker shads.

I havent yet been out this year so I have no "recent" advice to offer.

The top third of the water column seems to be where the hungry fish are at. I haven’t been marking big schools of fish in the past weeks. As long as I’m marking fish it seems that we have been slowly catching fish. Keep at it even if it’s slow. Stay with the mentioned colors but don’t be shy in throwing something different out. Might be nothing and then they turn on and it’s craziness. Good luck
