Remembering One of the Last Originals

Post by Lickety-Split »

There have been many fishermen that have fished here before many of us. This past weekend I lost my brother Bob who was one of those gentlemen. His boat and call sign was Sweet Cindy. His first boat was a 14ft. with a 1968 johnson 10 horse. 2 flat lines and 2 downriggers. This is how he started in the late 60's. I later bought that boat and made it my boat to start with. That boat made many trips to Canada along with fishing here.
Around 1984 he secured his captains license. We fished the best of times on the big lake. As a young man he was head lifeguard down at lake street beach. He worked as a lineman for nipsco and retired from the crown point district. After retirement he and family moved out to Colorado. We talked weekly and he always asked about fishing and the changes going on the big lake. His heart was always here. We hunted the same farm which I still hunt, and he took some beautiful bucks over those years. I couldn't of asked for a better mentor or big brother. I going to miss him terribly. So yes there is a passion for this fishery. A passion that can't be discribed in words.
