Back at it Again (Burns Harbor)

Last year I didn't do much with the peanut flies but blue/black has always done well for me as well as green/gold and Orange. Thin Fins are always hot early spring and recently the Bay Rats coho killer has been doing pretty well.

Unfortunately, it took my much longer to get into the water than anticipated. Only had about two hours and caught nothing. Might be cursed, but that is ok. I'll Keep at it.

I am by no means a Salmon fishing veteran but this is generally my spring setup. Most of my poles are 12 lbs test with 12 lbs test Flourocarbon leaders (generally put like 20' of leader on). I will run a thin fish either with no weight or a 1/4 keel weight connected with another 7' flourocarbon leader between the weight and lure (red with black squiggles). Then the next one closest to the boat I will do a similar but with a 3/8 or 1/2 keel weight. then I will either run dodger flys on a wire dipsy or the down riggers. I get them down to about 15' or so to start. Then if I have enough people I will run some other dodger flies on the riggers with different colors. I also like to run one long line down the shout about 100' back with a stick bait (lucky craft usually) for the king that is swimming around. My lines go back about 20 to 40 feet and will adjust depths and feet and speed to try to find what they want. Trolling in spring is generally really slow - like 1 mpg to 1.5 but sometimes they want it faster. Play with speed, depth and lengths to find whats working. I will generally run a few different colors of lures to see what they want also.
