New Buffalo 3/28 afternoon

Post by go4bigfish »

I was finally able to get my #1 grandson out for his inaugural Lake Michigan fishing trip.
Setup SW and trolled towards Michigan City.
Slow but steady pick today, but all 5 rods took fish.
After about 7 Coho, a bonus spring King hit a dodger / fly combo on a rigger set at 13 ft. Only 28 ft of line out on the counter!. Grandson did all of the rod work and I manned the net. It took a good while to land it on a walleye-sized outfit. I  think he's going to be wanting to go out again!
It doesn't get any better than this - not sure who was more excited him or me.

We can let others chime in, but I am pretty sure thats a big ass coho and not a king.  I have made the same judgement in the spring before and its easy to do.  For me the eyes and mouth tell me its likely a coho.  Either way well done!  If a coho, that fish might be a state record class fish potentially by September.

Could be - the mouth wasn't as black as it could have been but the fillets looked like King. If it was a Coho it was a beast!

Nice job. I also think that's a monster coho. Great to see the grandkid loving it.

Great job! Always amazing to get the kids on good fish.

Agree with the others - that's a monster coho! Even more impressive than a medium size spring king in my book
