Fishing down South has been good for pan fish this whole month and will be good into next month. If you want some sure fire action head south to the Dryden Bay area and get in on the hot white bass action. They have been in the jumps for a while and it is almost like stealing fish from an aquarium. Big ones too. Bring a couple of spinning rods with 10 or 12 pound mono and some 1/4 ounce jigs or some Little Georges and you are set. Birds give away the shad's location and the white bass are below them. A feeding frenzy starts and you get those lures in the jumping fish and hang on. You can fill a limit in no time right now. Big Ed you need to give this a try, no kidding. Stay away from the spring fishery and try the fall. Few boats are on the lake also. Here is a couple of pix.

funny you should post this now. I have Thursday through next Tuesday off and I have been tossing around whether to head to KY or MN or just fish the big lake. I was looking at Ark too but that is an even longer ride. Where do you stay when you go up there S.D.? I've never fished Barkley just Kentucky so it would be a new adventure totally.

There are some motels and inns in Eddyville, KY. The cheaper places are in Eddyville on highway 62 and the chain inns and motels are on the west end of the town near the interstate. I stay sometimes at the Days Inn. I make a lot of one day trips as it is only a couple of hours from my home. There is a public ramp at Dryden's Bay campground and it is a very short boat ride out of the bay to the river channel. There is a green mile marker piling at the entrance to the bay. Travel north to the next channel marker buoy about 3/8 mile. That is a good place to start looking for the fish. Typically this is an afternoon bite, after one till near dark. There are fish cleaning stations at Eddy Creek and Prizer's Point also. You can rent cabins and rooms at those marinas also. Use their slips when you stay there.
If the weather is good this weekend I will be down there going one last time. I can show you some of the area that I patrol should you come down. I forgot one other place to stay Barkley Lake lodge. It is a long boat run to my places but there is a bunch of places to fish around there also.
No mayflies to screw up the fishing. Just a bunch of hungry fish looking to get ready for winter. I have also gotten into some jumps that were not whites, they were all large mouths. They school by size a lot in the river. I caught them one trip and me and my 3 boys caught a limit of 4 to 6 pound bass and released 20 others.

Thanks Don - If I decide to head down I will PM you my cell and we can figure out where/when to connect up if you happen to be there. 2 hours away- I would be there or KY lake every weekend!! Thanks again for the info - I was kind of surprised to see how few lodges there are on the lake compared to KY Lake and their prices a quite a bit higher than what KY Lake is. I will check out the hotels and slip costs. Thanks again - I appreciate the info.
