Had a very early start due to the forecast found them in 20-25 foot with heavy south winds . Had to use the oversized drift bag and banged out a limit with a bonus Trout . You could see the lighting and heavy sky

to the west and had to run for cover .

Fished from 7 - 10 Got 5 keepers had about 10 throw backs. Fished down by Porter beach 24' water. Got wet on the way in.

Action was fast from 6:30 to 7:30 and then just shut off for us east of the ditch, at least we beat the weather in. Seemed like the bite was earlier where we were at.

After darting around looking for something good on sonar we ended up starting a drift in a similar area east of the pavillion. Came upon a pod in 22 FOW, spot locked and started catching. Then my batteries decided it is time for them to be replaced . Tried to anchor up but could not get on the same spot with those winds.

Got out just before the storm hit. Northowoods will probably post a pic or two. His kid got a nice 13 incher which is always good

Having a spot lock on the trolling motor sure ruins you for any other type of perch fishing. Using an actual anchor seems like the worst thing in the world when you're used to the spot lock!

Hey Guys dont want to hijack the topic but I have a quick question about the batteries. Upgraded the Minn kota 55power Drive V2 when I got the new boat and put the I pilot head on it. Love the idea and should be happy but have not been getting the battery life I would like or expect when I tried it out at Houghton a couple weeks ago. I have 2 crown deep cycle 27's i hooked up in Parallel thinking I should double my amphour rate as I heard the spotlock and I pilot in general drains batteries quick. I had the onboard charger connected all week before I left and a generator running between trips and cant seem to get more than an hour on the trolling motor. I would set the auto speed for trolling and would be out of battery in less than an hour. Was basically only able to use it for getting in and out of the shallows when I had my main motor up for anchoring. Any feedback or PM's on how your batteries perform would be appriciated. I seperated the batteries and charged them individually with the onboard charger and ran them individually just to see if I had a bad battery (both 1 yr old) same results but about 30min run time. Thinking I may not be getting a good charge out of my onboard charger.

Netminder, I am glad you brought this up. I put on an 80# Power Drive V2, 24 volt with iPilot a few months ago. I am running it off the bow when trolling for autopilot. It worked great the first couple times out, and then about 20-30 mins into a troll, it wasn't keeping us on course. Bats were dead.

I installed the MinnKota DC on board charger, uses the engines alternator to charge the trolling bats, and it was working pretty well. I checked for loose connections and charged both batteries at home and had the same problem the next time out. I am thinking it has to be something in the motor draining the bats, but I haven't investigated further yet.
