With my 1985 18' Lund TYEE GL (Great Lakes) model having seen her better days I have lately started fishing from shore again(Officially retired from work). Maybe a shore fishing topic would be a good idea so we don't bore the boat guys? Been on both sides of this fence. Had a vast amount of time and hours from my Lund spent on Lake Michigan chasing salmon and perch and many fishing hours also fishing for walleye on Lake Erie. I started fishing from shore and at this time back to doing it again. Just a thought... KJK

Probably best to use the "tributaries" forum or the "region lakes and rivers" forum. It gets impossible to try and categorize everything perfectly.

Maybe you could name it a bit different since the trib thread gets minimal use.
Maybe Pier/Shore?
Just a thought...not sure how much a shore thread would get used either as that group can be pretty tight lipped like the trib folks...and don't blame them

I totally understand about being tight lipped. A mass of people means a mass of trash usually. Used to fish the creeks in the 70's and 80's and some fishermen were their own worst enemies leaving garbage and fishing spots being taken away. Also when the "word" is out that the Coho , perch and other species are biting the ramps will get very crowded. I understand. KJK

I usually just post in the appropriate species forum unless I forget to select a forum, then it just goes in the announcement page lol. I always just look at the recent topics when I check in, so it’s doesn’t really seem to matter to me. I will say I’m a bit more discreet when it comes to shore fishing reports. It’s nice having another guy or two on the pier to BS with and net fish, but it sucks when it gets to the point other people are interfering with your ability to fish.

South Shore I agree about the "Crowds" on the piers. Use to fish Dean Mitchell before getting my Lund and man when the word was out that Coho or perch were biting it would get crazy. On a side note onetime in the mid nineties everyone was trolling the Inland Steel wall from "First Light to the end of the wall. Reason being there was a massive school of alewives that stretched for quite a way. The radio chatter was all the same(pre-cell phone), a few coho here and there but no steady bite. We were trolling there but decided to move out to the "Gong" and man were the Coho on fire out there. We were the only ones. I had a Impulse 2000 Fish/Depth Finder(old school) on my Lund and we really were not marking many fish or bait which baffled us but it was great fishing. Brother Nature, you were trolling by the wall and I stopped to tell you to go to the Gong that fishing was a lot better out there. Probably don't remember this story being it was over 25 years ago, My Lund was red with twin seventy horse Johnson's. Just one of many stories I have. Took a channel 7 camera man out to the end of Inland wall one time cause a boat load of people hit the wall( a couple of drownings) the night before coming back fro Venetian night in Chi-Town. The late Bob Petty(channel 7 anchor) asked me if I would take his camera man for some film footage to be used on the 5 o'clock news.

I don't remember the particular time you gave me the hot tip. I'm so bone headed, I probably didn't pay attention, anyway. I do remember your boat, I think. I always thought having the twins on the back was just plain cool!  

I do remember the day the boat hit the wall and all the news people, Coast Guard activity and the rest. In fact, I was the person who made the initial report to the Coast Guard there had been an accident and people were in the water.  As I recall it got more and more windy as the day went on - from the Southwest - and it was really choppy past the Hole in the Wall.  

When we came in I was approached by Russ Ewing, a big-wig Channel Five reporter out of Chicago looking for a boat ride for him and his camera guy. I turned him down saying #1 it was too rough and #2 nothing to see out there. 

As I recall, five people were in the boat. Three went into the water, one of them survived. The crashed boat drifted out past the gong before it was spotted. One dead and one still alive on board.
