Was out before sun up this morning. two lines and setting third when on of the dippsies fired. got a nice coho to the back side of the boat but since riggers were still in the upright position and we didnt have things all ready I accidentally let some slack in the line - coho jumped up out of the water and spit the lure. got the rest of the lines set and went for a while before we got another hit on a dippsie. I was bringing him in and lost him - the dippsie was set too tight and never released. more driving around enjoying radio chatter and had a dipsie scream for about 2 seconds and done. Pulled in the line and he had snapped the spoon off the line. It was a HARD fast hit so we are figuring a steelhead. Had one more hit on another dippsie but he got loose before we saw him. 10:00 packed up lines and headed in. Fish were out there but scattered. Lots of bait marked and also marked several fish. consensus on the radio seemed that the fish scattered and with all the bait fish they were not very hungry. I figure it is just because I had the chance to get out today.
Also want to give a shout-out for Slez bait and tackle. I went by that place once and it is just a guys garage and not very impressive so I left. After seeing some pictures on Facebook I decided to stop in and see if they had something I was looking for and they did. they do not have a ton of stuff but they have what works for the big lake. Also Slez was a really nice guy and helpful. Only bad thing is cash only but prices are good so support your local guy.

Over all it was a decent day even though I didnt get any silver in the boat we still have some good hits. Next time hopefully we will get a few in the boat.

No talk on the radio but pretty sure we want over a couple nice "balls" of them in about 50' also talking with a buddy of mine at the dock he said he was pretty sure he saw a few spots of them on the graph also (he has fished perch for years so I would trust him). I have never fished perch on my own so I am just guess that what I saw was perch.

Thanks for the report Ed. Yea - Slez (Rich) is a great guy and always has the tackle or bait that you need.

I would like to second that too about Slez: everything you hear about Rich is true...a total stand-up guy, and will give you an honest report at all times. The last thing he's trying to do is sell bait just to sell it. One of the hardest working guys in show business too with the schedule he keeps working a charter business and a full time job, along with the bait shop!

Any day on the water is usually a good day in my book. Some strikes make it even better. . I found this report interesting as we too are having one of our lowest percentage years on strikes vs caught fish. Went 4 of 10 a few weeks back in MC. Normally we are a 80% landed boat. I figure it's our using sliders. But I have noticed more lost fish for some reason this year. Is it just us or many folks this season?
