Those that have meet me know that I just stared salmon fishing 2 years ago. Well I have aquired a lot of gear in that time. The wife was in my man cave (garage) which she know is strictly forbidden. Lol but she found out I have 21 rods and 37 reels plus other gear. When she asked why do I need so many rods, when you can only use 1 at a time. The wrong response to that question is I use 12 at one time. While everyone has its own purpose. I got skunked 3 times this year and 2 of the 3 times she was in the boat. I swear it was not on purpose. She asks how much all the rodds a reals cost I say 40 bucks per rod and real. I think she bought it maybe as she rolled her eyes and went back it the house.

better hope she doesn't do a google search on some of the equipment, good luck!

Tell her to think of them as shoes. And she can only wear those one pair at a time. You are using 12 at a time. That is way more efficient.

At least I have all the rods and reels I need and want. In 10 years you never know about the boat. But I have learned most of the time it better to ask forgiveness than for permission. Lol

Been their, done that!!! I live by that model with my wife. Easier to ask for foregiveness than to beg for permission!!!
Did that with a pickup truck once and my wife does not know all the fishing gear I accumulated over the past 4 years.

Hahaha Bill. When you buy the next setup,(we all know there will be more lol) let her pick between a couple of rod reel options for you. Works well for me. Good luck!

It's a Mars and Venus thing.
Two stories. Decades ago I was a part of a class action settlement by surprise. My "payments" came in two separate checks, One for $500, one for $1500. At the time I was outfitting Brother Nature #2. A friend was driving with me one day when I stopped at my mailbox and got the second check. We'd been talking about what to buy with the $500. When I opened the $1500 I told him, "I'm in trouble now. I can sneak $500 worth of stuff onto the boat. There's nothing I can buy for $1500 she won't notice."

Story Two: My wife retired a couple years ago and became bored. She told me one day she needed to go to the store to buy some bread. I told her, "Go bake your own bread. All you need is flour, water and yeast. What else do you have to do."

I created a monster! She now buys 20 pound sacks of flour at Sam's Club and has filled the kitchen with bowls, mixers, proofers and other bread baking paraphernalia. Now, when she reacts to a mention of new fishing gear - I bring up how much gear it takes to mix flour, yeast and water. Stand off!
