Fished out of Portage. It was slow going. We managed 3 lakers and 2 cohos. The lakers came on green spin and glows and the cohos came on spoons. We fished all day. I didn’t see any bait on the graph. Went straight north to 110 fow and nothing showing there for us. We were definitely happy to get what we did. It was my buddies first time out so it was nice that he was able to bring in a couple of nice lakers.

Hey John,
I noticed on the one or maybe both of the big lake trout have some bumps or something on the sides. Did you notice anything strange when you cleaned them on the meat? I caught one a few weeks ago that I notice what looked like open sores or something unusaul on it when I netted it. They were definitley not Lamprey marks, a lot of them and smller than a dime. After I turned it back I knew I should have taken a few pics to put on the board but wanted to get it back in the water so I didnt think of it at the time. In all the time I have fished this lake I can not recal a laker with anything like it that I have caught before.

That did seem to have some sores. I just figured it was from lampreys. The meat looked fine when I filleted them. I did leave the skin on so not positive what it would have looked like. I thought it was a bit odd but I don’t have a ton of experience so figured it was normal.

Definitely make you wonder. Can they possibly be lamprey marks that are almost healed? Maybe Ben will chime in with some info or thoughts.

Definitely not lamprey marks, look more like pimples or small skin legions. I have seen several fish with one or two lamprey marks on them. My fish had a dozen or more about 2-4mm in size on both sides. I have not seen anything like it in 40+yrs on the lake and after seeing more pics started wondering if there was something maybe going through some Lakers.
