Found the fish we lost on Sunday at the Classic.... then lost them a second time! Time for a Go Pro...

Ended up with 11 kings today before we called it quits right before the rain started. Last fish on was a laker (only one of the day) and we set it free safely.

Cooler could have probably held a couple more but it was close to full. Average fish was probably about 12 lbs. but we didn’t get a monster today. Big fish was just shy of 19 lbs on the handheld scale. Lot of fun today, glad to see the kings stuck around after the heavy pressure the last couple weekends.

Marked a good bit of bait in 30 - 40 FOW.

Hot producer of the day was the mag spoon from Sea Quest lures that was in the captains bag from the Classic last weekend. The ITO fly from the swag bag also produced the biggest fish of the day on a dipsey setup with an 8” spindoctor. Cooler shot is 2 or 3 fish short from the end of the day, but that’s all the evidence I have for now.

The fishing down here has been stupid hot - unbelievable. Hopefully a new pattern is emerging and every year moving forward will be like this within reason of course lol.

How were conditions out that way? Was there clean water or bait anywhere near the piers? I haven’t been out that way recently.

I sure hope so! Maybe those DNR folks actually do know what they're doing and the predator / prey balance is slowly correcting itself after the stocking changes over the last few years... ;)

I rather err on the side of caution than have a collapse... So far it looks like a rebound. Only time will tell.

Huge thanks to the biologists and fisheries managers that have taken a lashing over the last few years while trying to correct the LM ecosystem. Let's hope for continued success and balance in this great fishery.

Water was dirty with debris heading out to the lake. We went out and came back in from the southwest light, not the northeast light by the lighthouse. Coming back in there were seagulls massed all over just inside the break wall (gov't pier I guess some call it) dive bombing and picking off alewives. Marked a lot of bait on the bottom as well as we were coming back in and got close to the break wall.

Yet another reason I need to get a Go Pro on the boat!

This was 2/3rds of our haul. 6 of 9 Gallon freezer bags full of King fillets. One of the guys I was fishing with took two bags to brine and smoke right away and another bag was distributed to some friends. Rest is vacuum sealed and (now) in the freezer!

I’ve been dreaming about hooking one of these spring time beasts casting from the pier or fishing live ales. I wish they’d get the webcam up. I think a healthy dose of dirty water from the creek pulls the fish in, but logs and trash all over makes it un fishable. Be awesome if they’d put a live cam in like at St Joe.
