Went out of Portage and took a limit of Cohos. We never had to measure a fish and never threw one back. Its gonna be a great year! I cant wait to see all my buddies out on the water. There is nothing better than fishing the South End. Tight lines ya'll.

Great news! Last year the fish were the smallest average size EVER and I've been at this since "ever" was invented. I'd catch more shorts in one trip last year than I'd catch most spring seasons. Realistically, "normal" is to never catch a 'ho less than 14 inches all year. Hopefully, these bigger size early season fish are a sign the fish are back to normal.

Excellent news!

Hopefully that size persists. Seemed to be two size classes last spring, with some decent ones early mixed in with the smaller ones, and then later a ton of shorts.

Usually good coho size in the spring is indicative of a decent alewife hatch the previous spring. Fingers crossed there!
