I'm attending as well. It should be very interesting and I think it's going to be a full house. I have attended meeting where Brian Briedert has been the main speaker and he is a good guy with a lot of interesting data.

Morning Tim,
I'm going to hold my tongue this morning and defer to Dirtyx To lay it out. I think he may have gotten permission to use some of there info to try to help explain whats going on. There was a pretty full house for this meeting and the southend did a good job of representing. Baron glad you made the meeting and was very nic to meet you after. I hung around to ask more questions and to possibly volunteer my services for working with the hatchery people for doing fin clips.

One item I know that is rough to swallow is all the lake trout. How about finding out that a treaty from back in the late 1800's that is part of the equation.

I will be working with DNR to see what detailed info and slides we can get put up here on The South End to be an informative resource for everyone. Stay tuned.

If you can't post the info what was the overall feeling or take away from the meeting about the Salmon (if you can just give a quick summary for those of us who couldnt make it) if you can give a basic summary or even a "not looking good" or" good things in the works that should rebound/preserve it" type of thing. Detailed information is always preferred but an over view is better than nothing.

A quick summary is the new norm will be somewhere between fishing like like it is this year and a crash. They are taking lessons learned from the Huron crash and trying to manage it by reducing stocking of kings and perhaps less kings and more other fish such as steelhead, browns etc in the future. Kings feed pretty much on alewives where other fish will feed on other things such as gobies, bugs etc. as well.

There are so many factors involved, that the DNR really doesnt know how much or if it will get worse. We need some good year classes of alewives, that is for sure. When we have wet years like this year, there are alot of nutrients etc coming into the lake from the rivers and streams to help better support the food chain.

Thank you Dirtyx I know it is a very complex issue and not easy to just wrap up in a neat little bow but you did a nice summary for us who did not make the meeting. It is much appreciated. Sounds like we need to start and alewives stocking program lol... Lets hope the DNR gets it figured out. Thanks again for the summary.

If alewife stocking was the key that would be great - unfortunately it would not even make a dent

Are they thinking of reducing the number of Kings that can be taken given the numbers and I would think the need for natural reproduction since they will be stoc king less?
