Stroke of luck - glad I am not the only one who seems to have that kind of luck.  We also have our most luck when eating and BSing after a while of no fish and decide its to to eat and not pay attention to the spread,

@Dirty; you said you find fish then set lines, do you actually see salmon on the graph or just look for large bait balls and start to set lines?    I have yet to see a large fish on the fish finder but I do see bait balls.    I tend to run to my graph spots and set lines where I think they should be or have heard reports but haven't actually ran around looking for fish before setting lines.   Seems like I missed a stupid common sense part of Salmon fishing (or any fishing that is).

Stroke of luck- that's some pretty funny stuff and sounds alot like goes on in my boat, lol

BigEdV- I do see salmon on the graph, not the way i see walleyes, which sometimes  fills the screen with arches, but i will see them from time to time.  I haven't been going out deep or that far though, only launched out of Pastrick's so i have just been north of the gong and running east west state lines. I have seen alot of bait and that's usually when i start setting  the spread out.  I have caught fish I've  seen on the graph,  arches on the bottom indicating lakers and i was running spin in glows on bottom  so i told the group to keep an eye on the riggers and sure enough had a laker hook up. That's always enjoyable- catching what you see

I always tell people, "If I have to see a fish on the sonar to catch it, I'm in trouble and if I could catch every fish I see on the sonar I'd be danged good."

Follow-up comment - "if the fish shown on the sonar doesn't bite, it's obviously just a carp."

I see plenty of fish on the graph.  There are times when I see a bunch and times where I see very little.  If I am not catching and the graph is dead, I am moving. If I am not catching, but seeing fish, its time to change up the spread.   Usually I have a predetermined setup spot, sometimes though I will keep on moving until I start marking before I set lines.

Also make sure your finder is set on 50 or 83 khz.  If your using 200 khz, your sonar cone is very narrow and you will see alot less.
