I deal with the moisture issue with the wife's cookie sheets and wax paper if only a few fish say 5 or 6 are concerned. I line the sheets with the wax paper and put the drained fillets on the sheets and put them in the freezer for a time until they feel dry to the touch or a bit longer if you like. Then I seal them in the vacuum sealer with no issues.

If you use a lot of bags or rolls it gets expensive buying them in the small quantity boxes at the store. I found them in bulk boxes at Amazon for a fraction of the cost. My most recent purchase was 200 oversized quart bags for about 23 dollars delivered to my door. No name brand, but I found them to be more durable than the food saver brand by far. Also as good or better than the ones put out by ziplock.

I spoke to Foodsaver and many of the sealers we normally see are only rated for intermittent operation. (a few seals and take a break).

The FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer GM710-000 GameSaver Big Game Sealing is rated for continuous sealing. You must dump the water tray occasionally, but mine has never needed a time out. It's not really that much more expensive, but Foodsaver never explains the duty cycle in there advertising.

You must clamp and unclamp by hand every bag.

I think you will be happy with this one, and it takes much larger bags too if you need them.

Thanks for the info, sounds the the Game Saver model is worth a shot.

Do you use the Game Saver bags, or do you stick with the standard bags? Looks like the Game Saver ones might be a little heavier duty?

Food Saver sells reconditioned units for about half price. Maybe they will have the one you are looking for. My household model was 49 dollars with a one year warranty same as a new unit. I called customer service and got the unit.

I've had a food saver for many years. And no issues. Try this trick. Figure out the size of meal you need and wrap INDIVIDUALLY with saran wrap then when you're ready for a meal cut seal and remove what you want and then reseal. I use commercial 18 inch from Gordans, do all your meals this way

Opinions are like bellybuttons, everyone has one. And though I don't use vacuum sealers I've used them and seen them used. Wildbill has a great idea that might be worth investigating. Might even make me a food saver user.

When I used a FS the main issue I had was with getting a good seal with regard to the moisture. I like the idea of wrapping what is going to be sealed in Saran Wrap or some other plastic wrap first, then sealing the wrapped fish or other product. I'm thinking it might contain the "juice" well enough, long enough to keep the sealer from having to overwork and shutting down.

How about one of you vacuum sealer users trying this technique and reporting if it makes any difference - a lot, a little, none? It would be interesting to find out. Your report might end up in the tips section of a future Great Lakes Angler magazine if it works well. Take a couple of photos.

I will also note that on my game saver - I use the "Moist" and "Fast" option. The "Moist" is a no brainer. The "Fast" option tends to get the seal locked in before any water / juices creep out if the fillets are still pretty wet. I have been running mine for 7 years and she is still going.
