If you are coming from Michigan City, it's a long boat ride - well over 20 miles. From Portage it's about 7 miles west, from East Chicago, it's about 7 miles east and if the weather is nice there will be a cluster of boats trolling in the area from now until early May. It's on the end of a long breakwater (at least a couple hundred yards) jutting out into the lake and the shoreline is industrialized, not just beach.
What attracts the fish there? Is it a warm water discharge? We fished in front of the cook power plant for many years before 9-11. Now you can’t get close enough to it.
The South End provides useful resources and discussion forums for those that fish The South End of Lake Michigan for Salmon, Steelhead, Perch, and Bass as well as elsewhere in the Region and Chicago area.
