I am shuttering at the thought of even higher prices on fuel than we are suffering through now. A round trip at the rate now would cost me $200 just for the fuel. I do love this sport and I will come up and fish when I can. I am lucky in one respect in that my boat engine sips the fuel. I am concerned about guys like Brother Nature and the other charter captains and their ability to deal with the problem. I remember paying 7-800 bucks for a trip back in 2011 and 2012. I hope that their customers don't have to pay that much again. I am concerned that the fuel issues might torpedo a lot of their business and the other related business. How are you captain's planning to handle it? I know the guys who travel to fish will have a hard way to go. I would hate to see interest in the sport diminish because of things happening on the other side of the planet and not to mention the ability of the surrounding states to do their part in keeping a healthy fishery.

Almost all the captains I've talked to since last season raised their prices for 2022 over the winter. Some are taking the hit on already-booked trips, but boosting prices for trips they are currently booking. It's not so much the price increase as the lack of demand the high travel costs create. I charter as much to be able to afford to fish a lot as to make money. The money is good, I mostly use it to go fishing on away trips and to keep my boat in top shape, not to put food on the table.

What a lot of the captains in Florida did when the Obama Gas Prices were in effect is to charge a smaller "trip rate," to pay, for the overhead - boat payments, bait, insurance and all, then add the "fuel charge" depending on how much gas or diesel they burned while fishing. The base cost was say $400, but either a flowmeter or stop at the fuel dock at trip's end may have added an additional $150 or more.

Can only imagine how much marina fuel is going to cost. I get the feeling I will miss my old Yamaha T8, could troll all day and not even register on the fuel gauge.

Hopefully we are pleasantly surprised on the marina fuel.  It’s a special run and  boat gas / av gas is produced in such low quantities compared to every day pumped gas raising the price drastically won’t even move the needle.  I’m trying to be optimistic.  Lol
