I'm guessing the state legislation "has bigger fish to fry" than a bill to increase fees for salmon/trout stamp. The industry and economic drivers are just so much bigger in Michigan and Wisconsin that it gets more attention than our little 'ol corner of the lake can ever generate.
There are a couple of work-arounds that have been forwarded over the years which would have helped this but the legislature wouldn't give up their "control." Sort of like, "Are you going to eat that last cookie?" NO. "Can I have it?" No.
There was once a bill that would tie the cost of licenses to the government's economic index and grant what would be like a Cost of Living Adjustment. The cost of living increases three or four percent, the cost of licenses would be raised. Didn't Fly.
There was another bill introduced once that would give the Natural Resources Commission the power to set license fees. No - go. Basically, it's their cookie and though they won't eat it, they won't give it up.
