Took a day off hunting and decided to do some perch fishing in the afternoon. I was single crew member on my boat so it was a quick trip (maybe 2 hours launch to launch). Typical perch set up for me is 2 hooks or flies tied with Palomar knots on the main line with a sinker on the bottom. I was running red/yellow Willie Nillies tipped with fat heads and chartreuse hooks tipped with fatheads as well. I was fishing in 34 FOW outside the Calumet river in the big lake about 1/4 mile out from the mouth of the river. I kept the boat at a .7 mph drift wit the trolling motor which kept an active bite during the mid day mostly bigger perch. Most small ones I caught came on a slow presentation if I attempted to spot lock on a weed bed or a school marked on the graph, but once I figured out the faster drift speed was the way to go I was able to throw back half my limit of fish that were still alive in the well and fill my limit with bigger perch. Felt good to be on the water again

Thanks for the report I Jums. You have a nice rig after I seen you on the water. We fished both days found a few real nice ones. Tons of small ones. I will have to put drifting into my perch bank of knowledge. We caught a ton of fish yesterday but really struggled to catch anything of size. Saturday was much better for me. Thanks for share your pro tips. Perch fishing is very new to me. But I am enjoying it.
