Slow at Portage and Gary Light today. Caught three and missed two. Two were legal sized. All on Brad’s Thin Fish in red and black squiggles, one on a gold and black back. The third one might have been the yellow with watermelon dots but could be mistaken, we switched a lot but never found any real pattern today as far as lures or colors. So with some kings showing up, I know the chances are slim and I probably won’t be lucky enough to hit one but can you catch them on a dipsy as effectively as a rigger? Thanks! Slow day but oh well.

I moved it for ya - no worries. The answer to your question is you can probably catch them more effectively on dipsies vs riggers, but it all depends how boat shy the fish are.  If you dont have riggers, your not missing out on anything other than ease of use or depth accessibilty..

Wire Dipsys are my most productive setup I have for after spring fishing.   So much so I have added two more to my spread over the winter and plan on using them more in place of my riggers.  Riggers are my least productive for salmon but I am not the top fisherman either.    Riggers are good if you want to get all the way to the bottom and they are nice if you want to get two extra lures out by using free sliders.   I still use them but as I said, they are my least productive rigs on the boat.

And thanks BigEd for that insight on wire dipsys. I plan on adding two wire setups myself this year,  glad to see i may be on the right path . 
Not to hijack the thread but just wondering what you run off your wire setups, spoons or flasher fly or do you just mix it up?

2 things.
1) bloody up that live well! Can't win bloody cooler contests like that!!
2) this is the best time of the year for anyone to catch kings in a boat without going miles offshore. With that said anything you put out for coho will potentially get you a king. My first boat king came on a smaller hotntot flatlined behind a board.

Ppl run all sorts of things off wire. For me its usually a flasher fly.

So how does this setup sound,  post coho, around May- downriggers down on bottom pulling cowbells and spin n glos free sliders halfway down , flasher flies on 1 setting wires and spoons off braid dipsys set at 2.5

Sounds like a good plan.  I would be cautious about running a free slider with cowbells or anything that spins.  It can be a real mess when the slider makes it way to the end of the line. 

Sounds fine, like bk said slides and anything that spins could cause a world of hurt. Cow bells do best 1.5 - 2 mph, id opt for a spin doctor and spin n glow and go between 2.5 and 3 covering water.
