Been out a few times in the last week or so, while I have not been killing them by any means, I have gotten a few.  Five to 10 pound range and all in about 50' to 55' of water midway between #2 and #4 off the port.  All the action I've had is around 6PM. +- 1/2 hour.

So, I launch out of Portage bout 2:30PM with plans to fish for smallmouth. I was working a submerged break wall that tops out at about 20’ and using wire line with a wire leader to get the depth and protect against zebra muscles and fraying against rocks. I had no success with the smallies, but did connect with 3-salmon, one of which I believe was a king just by the strike and the weight felt. Made contact with these fish while trolling the 20’ depth, as they were suspended off the breakline by a few feet. 2 of the fish were on for sometime, but lost. They were likely coho as they didn’t feel that heavy. The last one turned me around as my boat was in 36’ but the lure had just come of the breakline a few seconds earlier.  IMO, the fish were lost because I was fishing wire with no mono leader that had any give to it. Not what I would do if salmon fishing. Anyway, others were fishing the area and I saw one boat land what appeared to be a good sized coho or smaller chinook. All other fishing boats appeared to be casting from 45’ of water. I saw several salmon breaking surface and even jumping from the late afternoon til 7PM as I was leaving.
Don’t know what happened since the wind change. Just wanted to let you know about the salmon activity as a FYI.

Very cool!  May have been Salmon but also could have been Drum.  Either way fun to have some
action.
