I for one am not a fan of fighting planer boards in to the boat...not as fun as it should be especially with 2 lb Coho. This is the setup I converted all of my boards to. This takes the pressure off the board and allows you to fight the fish directly (as much as possible) even with coppers and leadcore.

Interestingly enough I just purchased some yesterday! Ordered from anglers avenue. At this point I only bought 2 of them to see how they work out. I have been using church boards, and yes fighting the planer boards in.

I really look forward to getting them in the water and successfully increasing the catch rate while enjoying fighting the fish :)

Can't see a picture of there was supposed to be one. I made a set of homemade big boards for this year, if only the weather would let me try them out.

I actually purchased mine from Anglers Ave also and have them on walleye boards. Great service with 2 day shipping, even though it didn't matter with all the ice.

Its actually a video I copied on there, if you cant see it you can youtube it. The product is called Sam's Pro Release.

I purchased some offshore boards to put them on. You have them on the church boards Tmik? Are you just letting the board then ultimately slide down to the fish? Also how did you attach? Did you use a split ring?

I took off the default front clip on the church boards and added a split ring with the sams release. The I used a slip ring with a OR16 release attached to the back of the board via the spring pin. (no new holes needed) The best part of the OR 16 clip is it works very well with braid so it doesn't slide down the line and it has a pin in the center of the pads so if the pad slips you wont lose your board.

1) Much better idea than reeling in the planer in the set position.
2) I fished with a captain once who used the Church boards and set them to release instead of holding the line to get the board to the boat, but simply put a rubber band on the back of the board and around the line to keep it from sliding down. Accomplished much the same thing.
3) Wait until you guys see my latest article in Great Lakes Angler magazine. It's going to pee-off all the in-line planer guys. I admit, in-lines produce fish. So do big boards. But in-lines take the fun out of funny, the sport out of sport fishing. And it's all about the fun and sport. Want some dead fish? Go to Stracks. They have a whole seafood section from which to choose.
4) Reel Fun: Good luck with the new BIG BOARDS. A bit of a learning curve, but you'll love them.

I couldnt agree more. There is nothing fun about fighting the board. Every time a board rod went off last year I was like - oh its your turn - get it get it! haha ;)

We rig are offshore boards on the salmon phantom the same way except we run the offshore OR19 release on the front of the board. We have been doing it that way since we started fishing the big lake. Offshore has started selling there boards rigged this way out of the package. We hate the church boards!!!

How does the release work out for you steekgeaderic? I only have experience with church boards, the the releases flat out suck. Cant wait to get the offshores.
