Yesterday evening I had a chance to be part of a team that went to Mixsawbah fish hatchery. Captains John Warren, Captain Bill Forrest, along with first mates Rob Blackmon and Josh Skubisz, all helped to move 75,000 kings from the outside rearing pond to the Mixdawbah stocking truck. Loaded the Stocking truck made the drive to East Chicago Marina and under the cover of darkness the young kings were released. Great job by all last night. Mixsawbah Hatchery manager Rob Ackerson and asst. manager Ken Wetzel assisted the East Chicago stocking team.

The work done by the EC stocking team last night was the topic today at the Lake Huron Advisory Board.. Presently we are the only group to do this. (Night Stocking)

Today it was reported that there was no birds at the EC stocking site.

Seems to me that this has really been effective - seeing what the birds did in years past.  Glad its happening this way (I believe for the 2nd year).  Its alot of work for those involved - they deserve a great deal of thanks / kudos.

Instead of constantly asking for more fish it only makes sense we would take better care of what he have first. Thank you to all who helped with the stocking efforts.
I have read Lake Ontario Sportsmen groups use net pens. Salmon are held, fed and protected until they smolt and then released at night. Net pens are then used to hold Brown Trout and Steelhead stockings until they can be released at night to avoid bird predation. Fish are placed in net pens at noon and released in darkness.

As of yesterday,,,,,,, still no birds at the EC stocking site.
