WOW! There must have been a lollapaloozer of a storm yesterday in Porter County! Bunches of sticks and stuff floating in Burns River and way out to 50 feet of water was dirty looking water, duckweed, sticks, feathers and other crap. If I hadn't caught a king in the first 15 minutes, I might have pulled and ran out to somewhere to produce some fish. So I figured where there was one salmon there'd be another and besides, if I could hook eight or 10 giant gaspergoos for the guy, he'd be happy. He's from northern Ohio so he's familiar with Lake Erie sheeps. I asked how big the biggest he ever caught? "Oh, 6 or seven pounds," say's he.

"That's because once they get bigger, they swim up the Detroit River, through Lake St. Claire and Huron, through the Straights of MacKenaw and then come to Indiana."

"Really?" he asks. Must be, because we seldom catch one less than 10 pounds.

With the dirty water we only boated one goo all morning and it was only a 7 pounder.

All I could say was it just got here from it's journey from Lake Erie!

Good thing we caught some steelhead to go with the salmon!

Who knew the goos vacate when the water turns dirty?

Hmm thats interesting. I know there was some minor storms around but I never saw much materialize. I wonder whats up with that...... I wonder where all that crap came from.

yea I'm about 5 or 6 miles southeast of the portage ramp and didn't fish yesterday because of the radar. Never got hit with any rain at the house though. I think they had a bunch of rain up in the city though, maybe from that??

Looks like cold water close to shore. Could that have pushed the drum away? Hope that water stays

I remember on Erie the charter captains would feed every sheephead to seagulls, along with the white perch. After the zebra mussel invasion, they found out the the sheephead would feed on the mussels and everyone was released after that.

We have came a long way to the point we include them with our salmon count. " 5 for 9...3 goos".

I can already foresee a mid summer Goo Rally-the goos can be worth double points.

In the spirit of the goos, here is a pic of one from one of our trips. It's not me posing with it-I'm not to that point yet.

Greg ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ :woohoo:

I've always said if I could guarantee a half dozen gaspergoos over 10 pounds each trip, I'd advertise it and forget about running 14 miles offshore to catch lakers all summer. Very under rated fish. Austin Aducci (Grab Your Fly Charters) has a great business here on the South End (and Beaver Island) targeting carp in Lake Michigan.
