The public input survey is in the process of being distributed. A lot of this is covered in the survey invite and the survey itself, but I want to mention a few important points.First, thank you to all who attended the meetings. After the meetings, DNR decided to add a 4th option that was suggested at the East Chicago meeting: maintain 75,000 chinooks at East Chicago and split the announced increase between Trail Creek and Little Calumet. That would be 75K at East Chicago, 100K in Little Cal, and 100K in Trail Creek. I think it’s a really good option and it probably should have been included from the start.Second, DNR is extremely interested in this input, and it will help shape our management decision, in addition to our data and factors we covered at the meetings. We are looking to consider ALL answers to survey questions, including what factors anglers consider important when deciding where to fish, how acceptable each potential management option is, and which is the most-preferred option. It is not going to simply be a tally of “votes” for a given option as some have felt or expressed. All of the responses to the survey questions will shape and inform what management action the DNR chooses to implement.Third, details of how to take the survey. If you have a valid email in the online license system, you should automatically receive the survey. Check your inbox and your spam folder. If you DON'T have a valid email, or don't get an invite in the next couple days,  the generic link for people that did NOT buy a license online and/or receive an email invitation is here bit.ly/chinooksalmonstockingsurvey

If you know someone that has a lifetime license and is technologically challenged, feel free to forward that generic stocking link to them. You put in your last name and customer ID, which is found on your license. If you cannot find a customer ID, which may not be printed on some older lifetime licenses for example, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and they will assist you getting access to the survey. Please allow some patience, with a big survey there will be lots of inquiries.

There's no need to take the survey from your email invite, and also the generic survey link. They're the same survey link, and duplicate responses will be discarded.

I was just going to log in and post that the survey is out. That was a lot more questions than I was expecting.

I’m hoping all three sites continue to be planted. Hoping for 2% returns at all sites. And most of all hoping for increased public access on the lakefront and all streams. Let’s do this!!

Just a bump to this - the survey is still open. There were a lot of responses in the first day or two, but few after that. I'm assuming that most people that want to take it have already done so - but if not, check your email, or if you have not bought a license online, go to the link in the original post to take the survey

Well-spoken SouthShore, keep in mind there is public access in Lake County at East Chicago Marina, Hammond Marina, Whitting Park and also Amoco to name a few places.

Thanks for the great news on the 4th option: that's really promising to hear, along with the DNR's willingness to listen to folks for the feedback to get you to that point of adding it.  There was a LOT of passion in that EC room the day of the meeting, and yes some people get a little more passionate than others.  Overall, you folks listened and sound like were willing to compromise, so thank you very much for this possibility.  As Kingseeker said, there is a ton of shore opportunity from EC to Hammond to justify this too.

A) possibly B ) would be my guess.   I would surprised if more than that.

wonder what the total number of license holders with trout/salmon stamp or eligibility to vote is?

1) what was the winning answer for how many surveys were filled out?
2) and more importantly, what was the outcome of the surveys?
