Left on Tuesday for are annual trip out to San Diego to go tuna fishing. We fished a 2.5 day trip so we got on the boat Tuesday night at 7 pm and got back to the docks Friday morning at 6 am. Day one we fished yellow fin tuna and did very well. We caught the boats 2 day limit of yellowfin on are first day in just 2 stops. The boat limit for are trip was 300 yellowfin. It was wide open fishing!!. all the yellowfin were in the 12 to 20 # range. So the plan was if we could catch are limits of yellowfin day one, we would go look for the big bluefin tuna day two. Day two we spent kite fishing for bluefin and we had another great day of fishing. The boat caught 6 bluefin all trolling off the kite. 2 fish broke the 100 lb mark and the other 4 were over the 200lb mark!!!! The biggest one to come over the rail was 247lb. The lure that you fish off the kite simulates a flying fish so the whole time your trolling you can watch the bait skip in and out of the water. It was the coolest thing Ive ever seen fishing to watch those monster bluefin blow up on the bait and come all the way out of the water! They look like small cars. We were lucky enough to get are number called on one of the big boys!! The fish we caught missed the bait on the first five of 6 runs at it, then finally everyone on the boat is yelling
"HOOK UP"!!!!!!! Me and brother in law tag teamed the fish. It was unbelievable to feel that thing on the other end of the line. The kite rod is rigged with 400 lb braid with a 200 lb top shot of mono on it. On a monster ocean real. So with that kind of tackle you can really put it to the fish. It took us about 45 mins to get it over the rail. As I write this I am still sore everywhere from fighting that fish. I couldn't imagine trying to fight one without help from anyone else. Are fish weighed in at 217lbs. It was a trip of a lifetime and a fish of a lifetime. Some guys have fished out there their whole lives and have yet to catch one over 200lbs. I had to share it with ya guys!!

That trip was 700 to get on the boat, But that was meals included. They cook you breakfast lunch and dinner and have all kinds of snacks in-between and the food is actually really good. plus airfare to get out there and rod and reel rental if you don't have the gear. We have ocean reels that we take with us and just rent rods when we get there. We always fish the pacific queen out of Fishermans landing. You can go to there website and check it out. Fishermanslanding.com There are all different kinds of trips you can go on and the more days you spend on the boat the more expensive it gets.

That's awesome! I was out there 2 weeks ago and really wanted to go but was by myself so couldn't justify the boat cost.

Sweet - I love watching Wicked Tuna and seeing them get those beasts in. Great job - kind of ruins you for the Salmon though doesn't it? LOL
