took advantage of a nice day today with poor fishing to get some maitance done on my engines. On my 9.9 pro kicker she got new plugs, fuel filter, engine oil, lower unit oil, and water pump. On my 250 pro xs optimax she got 6 new expensive plugs, fuel filter, lower unit oil water pump and compressor filters with a oil prime sequence done. After completion I had no spare parts . Then Ran both on the hose for about 15 min. All checked out well 250 is running much smoother at idle speed. I've been changing the water pumps every 2 years on both engines. This year both water pumps look good but were starting to show signs of wear. The optimax has been getting plugs every two years. I put about 250 to 300 hours a year on the kicker and about 65 to 85 hours a year on the opti. Up next is bilge pumps not sure how I am going to get to them yet as they are in a bitch of a place but that is tomorrow's task. All parts cost me about 475 bucks and from what I have been charged in the past I figure I saved my self about 800 bucks. I took my time and the job took me about 6 hours.

I tell you what bob I am very mechanical and I had been paying every year to get this work done while the engine was still under the big warranty. Now that the big warranty is is gone I decided the boat will be treated like the cars. They will not see a shop unless I have no choice. It's not that hard to do yourself at all.

I bet you saved more than that Bill! Well worth it to do it all yourself. Just have to take your time.

Yeah I hear ya Bill. I always did my outboards myself too, but this year with the I/O I think I will let someone else do it. Next year maybe! lol

I'll be doing the same to mine soon. I still plan on taking a few more trips this year. I also need to go through my trailer bearings and need new batteries this winter as mine are 5 years old. That won't be cheap.
