Would it be ok if I left my 24v battery system hooked up to my bank charger system this winter? My boat is in my unheated garage. Can I just plug my charger system in and let it sit? Thanks.

I think the answer to your question really depends on the quality of your charger. Some trickle charge forever and some will only put a charge into your battery’s as they need it. I would recommend letting us know what equipment you have. I’m sure Frank will be a huge help to your questions.

battery and battery chargers require monitoring some require adding water from time to time
connection need to be kept clean and tight
the act of charging itself causes corrosion wears out a battery just as using them can

battery and charges work best when matteched together in compatible groups much like choosing performance parts for a engine for example "a big carburetor on a small engine with a stock cam shaft will not make more power just waste gas "

I might suggest plug charger in for 36 hors once a month during winter in spring check and clean ALL connection ad water if needed and charge one more time before going fishing

The one thing you do not want to do is leave it in the boat, connected, and never charging all winter. If there is any current draw at all, then the battery will discharge. Once it discharges too much, life expectancy will be greatly reduced, if not completely kill it (depending on level of discharge). All the methods below I would consider acceptable.

1) Keep connected and charge every month or so as frank says. Just make sure there is nothing drawing current because you can still risk discharge if there is.
2) Keep on the charger all winter. Make sure you have a quality charger that will trickle as required. This would be what I would personally do.
3) Fully charge, then disconnect the cables off the negative post. Battery self discharging is less when its cold. With that and the fact that it is "disconnected" it should be fine but will also be dependent on the battery condition and age.
4) Take the battery out, bring it inside (basement etc.) and put on a trickle charger.

Very well said, I have always plugged the on board charger in once a month and especially when I here there's a cold snap coming, if really cold I plug it in during the coldest part. A good charged battery is a healthy battery.
