Are those big egg laden females best to release? I know nothing about perch, and maybe it's full of gobies rather than eggs, just don't know how precarious the perch population is? Appears she would've hatched a ton of baby perch...if the gobies didn't eat all the eggs. Great catch nonetheless, not trying to stir controversy, just curious.

I think its a topic that is highly debatable and worthy of debate. on one hand, you have all these perch that are "easy pickens" at times, and if they were not caught, they would spawn.

However, is it fisherman that are taking some spawning fish that is the problem? Or is it the forage base? Much like the salmon issue, I think its moreso the forage base more than anything. There is no denying though that taking spawning fish does not help anything.

Either way, taking fish before, during, or after the spawn, eliminates a spawning fish from the general population. Does that specific time frame have more effect than another? Hard to say.

I have mixed feelings on it. I know some are against perch fishing this time of year - I happen to stand in the middle. When people I know that dont fish much want to get on some fun action - I have no problem taking them out. Else i am salmon fishing.

The topic of spawning perch had been tossed around for years and everyone has their own opinions and that is fine. If the limit by the state is 15 I will continue to harvest a limit. I leave it up to the biologists to make the decisions and voicing ones opinions is not going to make any changes from this forum. So it's probably better off just putting that over played topic under the rug.

So if you want to run out on the southend and bring home a good meal for your family the bite out there. Just it's always nice to have other fisherman around you to show some respect and give everyone their own space and keep your distance. The perch are not just piled up under a single boat and if you see someone catch a fish you don't have to start your boat up and run over to hoard in on them. Also if it's windy out and you can't get your anchor to catch you are most likely not well prepared to be out there anyway. Most likely you are just dragging your anchor and stirring the water up as one tries to make several attempts to hook up but fails and messing the fishing up for the others that have more experience and go out on windy conditions prepared and are able to stay on top of the fish .....
