Left out ofPortage looking for Coho but ended up with a limit of perch.
Left early and trolled west and north on a GLASS surface and the lake was very peaceful. JUST off Gary light a fellow fisherman and crew cruised by and warned my partner and I that the lake was about to turn and seas were going to get ANGRY!!!!! THANK YOU " fellow fisherman" for putting the thought of "it's not worth dying for" in our minds. The breeze came in 20 minutes and we had already picked up and ran back to the mouth of Portage. Just In case.
The glass surface was gone and a nice ripple made it easy searching for perch. Dropped trolling motor and cruised until we found some bottom dwellers! Hooked up on 3 quick 12" perch and managed to stay with them until the blow came and my trolling motor would not stay in the water anymore!
I'm embarrassed to say we anchored! Anchored we picked off the rest of our limit.in 48-50' FOW keeping it tight to the bottom.
4' waves, out of bait, no trolling motor, we reeled up our last catch and road the wave in.
