Based on reports of limits taken on 7-5, decided to try New Buffalo. On water 7:30am. Two of us. Worked south to pump house to a hole 23fow close to shore. First perch was a 12". Couple more in 9-10" range. Turned off, so headed out to 23-25fow where perch fleet was located just south of pump house. Marked huge pod of fish in area. Sloooow bite. One here-one there. 10" or better. Worked large area on trolling motor (1/2-1 speed) without much success. Picked one occasionally. Ended day with 20 quality fish boxed. Marked tons of bait fish. Nothing below 9" and several 11". Interesting note - at 25+ fow my temp probe read 58* Made several checks. Too cold for perch this time of year. Top temp was 69-70*. Don't be fooled by top temps when fishing bottom. I think NE wind pushed warm water out and brought in cold water on bottom. Also, very clear water, could see bottom 10-12fow. Talked with other fishermen at dock with same report. One who limited out on 5th only had 17 yesterday fishing same spot. Friends fished City had identical report ( 4 men - 20 fish). Fishing buddy in his boat worked Red Roof (N of NB) to state line and only boxed "average" 17 perch for three man crew. Friend in St Joe fished down at chalets with same report - slooow! ( 2 perch) Perch are here, just need the right day when they are active. Hope this helps.
