Got out about 2 and searched all over hells half acre for perch. Found a few pods but they were fairly unproductive. Oddly we caught gobies everywhere we went, 15 FOW, 58 FOW and anywhere in between. Ive never really seen gobies in open water like that. We managed one measly perch. I will be trying again tomorrow. Hopefully the strong south winds pulls em in.

Tripled yesterdays catch!! got 3.....bah. fished 3-7pm and navigated a storm in the middle. fun times. Fished 18-57 FOW between the donut and a bit east of the pavilion.

however, early on we were in 57 FOW where I marked some yesterday and just dropped lines. The wind was pushing hard and pushed us off our spot before the ipilot kicked in. I fired up the outboard to push us into place and had a big jerk on my line and then it went limp. I thought WTH. lifted my rod up and started reeling and its just limp. all of a sudden a sweet steelhead shot out of the water like a rocket next to the boat and subsequently my drag was peeling off faster than I could comprehend. The fish darn near jumped into the boat. After 15 minutes of fighting her gently (trading spools), she finally made one last run and leap and snapped my 6 lb test.........sigh. Its one of those months ;)

The DNR creel survey looked like crap. 12 or so boats with nada. one guy had 13 and fished 6am - 12pm.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully, things will turn around soon. I think that it's important that we share our results, whether they be good or bad.

Fished MC a few days ago and the Perch were in shallow early around sunrise and were chasing schools of baitfish but as the sun came up the Perch moved out into the 24 - 30fow. We pulled 45 nice fish in 6hrs time. By around noon they were gone.

I made it sound like it was a banner day but most of the fish we kept were maybe between 10-12" which ain't bad, better than nothing. We would catch 2 or 3 then wait 15 minutes or so and another school would move through. On/Off pretty much the entire time out. Gonna start fishing from Portage and far west of there.

Anybody hear if the Perch action has picked up? I hear New Buffalo is hit and miss with most getting 5-10 and a few doing better. I am taking my dad and son out tomorrow and prefer to fish Indiana waters.
