Well, at least he caught one. Better than none at all!

I've been thinking about how we used to fish in East and West bay in Traverse City. We fished the bottom for whitefish and anything that would bite in the early 70s. We fished from 100 to 250 fow . We used a board 24 inches line with a Y on each end and narrowed down in the middle for your hand. We used 4 oz swedish pimples and heavy line of some sort about the diameter of 80 # momo but it was soft white rope. Each wrap was 4 feet or 2 feet for a half. We'd lower the lure to the bottom then raise it 2 to 4 ft or leave it hit the bottom then jig it up 2 or 3 foot and let it fall. It was lots of fun. We also fished for perch from 10 ft all the way out to 100 to 125 fow.

I've often thought about doing that here on the south end of the lake. I've never talked to anyone whose done it on the south end. It's no different than jigging for salmon in the Harbor just deeper. It could even turn into a big boat that people just come, pay and walk on to fish just like they do in lake Erie.
