Managed to launch Cal Park around 845am this morning with my son, Brad. (Great co-captain). Headed down river to first turn around basin. Saw one boat in south slip as we passed. Arrived first turn around and found three boats fishing.
Marked several schools and ended up spot locking south side midway about 200ft from wall. Surface was 44 degrees. Water little cloudy.
Started slow but ended up catching 17 keepers under three hours . Most nice 10", one 11" and the rest 8"-9"'s. Threw back just as many and of course several misses.
Overall great day. Not as cold as I thought it would be. That's why we started 845am. Waited for that sun to get higher in the sky. LOL.
While filleting our catch discovered of the 17 , 13 were males just 4 females. Guess those larger females are waiting to arrive later time.
Think it's starting. Good luck. Be safe out there.
