Never really spent much time perching. Someone told me as the water temps get to 50 or so they will start coming in just off gary light. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ive cant really remember what the water temps are when they start showing up....seems like 45-50'ish. At that point they start setting up shop to spawn.

This is a tough question if you're looking for the fish off Gary, the best indicators to me are kings and alewives showing up mixed in with the coho. In the past 10 to 15 years I've seen it be any where from the end of March to beginning of May, water temps> 40. I can tell you that right now is a good time to start trying. I spent a couple hours yesterday after the wind shifted and struck out but I spoke with a couple of guys that had caught a couple earlier in the day. If the wind and waves are favorable give it a shot. There are other areas besides the Gary flats that will generally produce fish earlier although not in the same size range.

After we got our coho limit yesterday we searched for pearch for 2 hours. Worked every area with sonar and only found a few pods here and there.
