Well the shake down trip was just that. Felt like a rookie out there getting used to the new set-up. And apparently my Albright knot is not what it used to be as 200' of copper left my reel with a steelhead tail dancing on the end of it. Nagging electrical issue had us headed back in after only a couple of hours going 1-2. Coho down 32' in 60' on Pro Troll echip orange folder with green/black peanut fly topped with small green/white spin & glow. Looking forward to shaking of the rust and getting after them.

We fished Portage as well over the weekend along with the rest of the pack and did pretty well: seems like starting earlier the better before the sun comes up is worth it, as that bite the first hour is pretty spectacular. On clear sunrise mornings, you can be fishing by 4:30 so can't beat that!!! It was a great mixed bag too of cohos and kings. The amount of kings caught over the weekend that I heard about was astounding, and that was from MC to Pastrick. Best baits for us were 100 of copper with mag spoons, as the bait we have been working seem to all be on the big size from stomach contents. Dipsy's also have been good early with spoons set on 2.5 in the 50-60ft back range on braid. Still can't buy a king on a spin doctor, which shocks me! About that bait: we even hooked one on a spoon twice (which I assume we snagged going through those bait balls) and they were both bigger than the mag spoon. We fished in the 45-50ft range and just zig-zagged through bait balls when we found them. Seemed like you found the bait, and just stuck with it.

Great report, sounds like you got them down well. ;)

Matching the size bait is a great way to try to stay on top of the bite. Keep it going!!!
