Big - O - 'HO. Definitely! Don't even have to give it the sniff test.

The more I stare at it the more I agree. With its size I didnt give it a whole lot of thought while on the water.

Is that Coho then probably a year older than the rest? No way there can be that much size difference if it was the same age as the rest I would think.

I'd guess is was the one in a million cohos that didn't live a 3-year lifestyle and was now well into it's fourth year of growth. The biggest "spring" coho ever on my boat was about eight pounds. That's considering multiple thousands of catches over the years.

Awesome. If only we could make more of those happen somehow! HAHA

A 12 pound coho sounds like a beast of a fish. Is that anywhere near a record in the state of Indiana?

The state record is 20lb 12oz

I believe the state record is around 20lbs or so says my ever failing memory .

Also for the record, I never weighed the fish, just my estimate based on the eye test and time of year. Measured once we got home, just shy of 33 inches. I should have put the scale to her, but didnt seem that critical at the time lol.

In the fall, I bet this fish might have had a chance at a record - assuming she ate well all summer.

This reminds me of a fishing trip to Barkley Lake a few years back. We were trolling for sauger and whites and we really laid into them. We caught the whites schooling and in the jumps. They tend to school by age or size and the fish we were in were large. To make a great epic fish tale a short story; one of the whites I caught weighed 5 pounds 3 ounces. I knew it was big but no idea it was a Kentucky state record until after it was filleted and turned into a fish sandwich. It is good to know about weights and what makes a state record.

The time stamp is off on this picture, but this one was caught last season around this time. Thought it was a king, many said no its a coho. we were fishing kings and had a handful of others and never looked that close. This season there has been others caught in this size range on the west side of the lake.
