Well, today seemed to be the perfect day to try for some perch off of the Gary light. It also seemed to be the perfect day to troll for salmon and that was the thought I woke up on. I could see a pack of boats off of the Gary Light, so I headed in that direction with a bucket full of minnows. After all, I was told the "bite" was "really on". Hmmmm. The lake was dead calm and like the lake, the perch fishing was dead too. Over a two hour time span, I saw two perch boated. It was time for me to come in so I thought it best to do a quick troll by the Gary Light seeing as I was already there. I was alone and could only run three rods. I ran a dodger/fly off a board, a thin fin off of a second board and a spoon 17 down off of a down rigger. You guessed it, Bam, Bam, Bam. Three really nice Cohos in short order. Now why didn't I just fish for those in the first place? I guess I should have trusted my initial gut feeling and trolled for salmon.
The South End provides useful resources and discussion forums for those that fish The South End of Lake Michigan for Salmon, Steelhead, Perch, and Bass as well as elsewhere in the Region and Chicago area.
