Left Portage 7am aboard the "SPECIAL ANGEL" with four fellow fishermen - all very experienced anglers. This was my tenth year making my first trip out aboard the Angel with Capt. Chuck. This was his forty-ninth year salmon fishing. Water temp at the mouth was 44-45 deg. Set lines and made one pass around, no hits. Water was less than 1ft chop so picked up and headed to Gary Light. Set down just outside, set lines and moved inside. Boated first ho near wall on first pass. Only six boats fishing. By 11:30 only had 6 ho's in boat. Decided to move outside wall into 42fow and game on!! By 2pm we were 17 for 24. 14 coho, 12# king, 3# brown, and 1 throwback. Not bad for the first trip out. By this time wind moved out of west blowing 25+mph with 2-3 footers. Water temp outside wall was 39.4*, and fairly clear. No special bait was hot, but sml dodger/flys took several fish. King hit a fly 30' off board. Ride back was a little wet. Fish had empty stomachs.
