Left portage excited to get on the water for more than an hour lure washing expedition. Went to Gary pointing the bow of my boat to east Chicago til I got to the start of the east wall and begun to troll southwest toward the lighthouse. Surface temps were 49 til about half a mile from the Gary wall where they hit 51. My first hit came after untangling a tot from a d/f combo and upon releasing the fly to loop back behind the planer board it got hit with an average size coho in the 51 degree water.
After a few more laps I started to troll back to portage in 45fow along the beach. About 20 min left in my fishing day and the down rigger pops with a nice 6lb laker (est). After measuring it at 27" and it being my first time eating them I decided to take the risk of taking it home to try it out.
