I wonder if a king like that is an anomaly? Ocean kings get that big on a richer diet and protective bag limits. Is that fish a 4 yr fish or is it older? I also would like to know if the fish was sterile and not able to reproduce? Or maybe a genetic mutation that allows for its great size. 30 plus pound fish I would think would be more routine if food was good and living its full life but, that fish had to be something special. Has anybody seen dead floaters that approached that size after the spawn? Very interesting to me.

Good questions with no answers, probably. I would guess it was a 4+ fish (nearly 5 year old). In some places - like the Kenai River - 4+ fish are the norm, thus contributing to the huge sizes they get there. The strain of fish used in the Great Lakes are all four year old spawners but I know we get some 2 and 3 year old "jacks", why not some older ones.

That King could have quite literally been the biggest King in the lake this year- what are the odds it got caught! That guy better buy a lottery ticket too this week.
