To add to what Tim said, the ramps are both good. They are approximately across from each other, one on each side of the river.

DNR one in Benton Harbor requires a recreation passport. $9 a day for non-residents, #32 annually. And Tackle Haven (GREAT shop) is right across the street.

St. Joe City launch is nicer, has a fantastic fish cleaning station, great clean bathrooms, and is a lot more isolated so less shenanigans going on at the ramp. It's $5 per day or $35 for an annual pass

Exactly what we did. We launched out of St. Joe public launch on the river. Once we hit the lake we followed the 270 heading for about 18 minutes doing 28 to 30 MPH. That was when we hit the 140 FoW.

Me too Noah. Thank Tmik for the report that got me to go try it.

I was a first timer until yesterday afternoon as well. Snuck out of work ant got on the water around 4;30. Ranwnw till 150" no sooner did I turn around from dropping the spoon on the rigger @50' it released. My first though was I didn't get it in the release right but the rod doubled over again in about 2 seconds. Nice King, never had one that big but he shook it at the net. The clouds rolled in and I never got another bite.

I love those rigger bites like that. Currents are tricking in St Joe, they are always on my mind when I am out. Keep a close eye on them. Good tip before anyone goes to St Joe is to google the Cook Bouy, I believe first or 2nd link down, will give you a more detailed version of the one on this site which also includes current at depth down to 60ft.

Maybe that was the guy that blew up my rod holder at least you got him to the boat and that you didnt loose any gear.
