Seems there is a pretty good Coho run in Trail Creek in the Fall. My question is do they stage at all in close before running in, or do they just haul ass from deep cold water to the creek?

I would think if we had good temps in shore they might move in close a bit, but last year I think it was 60 degrees plus top to bottom according to the IISG buoy during the run.

Just wondering if there's a tactic for targeting them in the fall from a boat. I was reading the "Fall Kings" topic on here and it made me wonder if there were some similar tactics for Coho.

I would generally say the kings and the coho's follow similar patterns. They will stage much like the kings. You can catch fish in the lake near the trail outlet and burns ditch at any time for the next month or more. Water temps play a big role in how those fish react. When temps are warm like they are now, its tough but sporadic. If we have some cold water move in the action seems to get pretty good. This time of year there are rules of thumb, however the bite does not always follow common logic. All I can say is continually beat it hard and you will find fish. Persistence pays of this time of year - its tough.

Like jeff said they stage like kings but to add to his response I would say I've typically noticed coho run a little later than kings in general.

Thanks for the info. Looks like south winds the next few days and the temp at the bottom is looking good at the moment on Michigan City Buoy. Hopefully we'll get some cold water set up in tight and have some good inshore action.
