Set up at the mouth and caught a 2 man limit in about 90 minutes.
The coho's are running a little bigger. We only had to throw a few undersized fish back today.
I used a 1/4 oz. plain jig and a 4" ,white Senco style plastic from Gulp.
My buddy was fishing shrimp under a float, but switched over to the same bait to finish his limit.
On Saturday I trolled the ditch with another buddy and caught 9 keepers.
We trolled from the mouth all the way past the split.
The fish were scattered throughout the Ditch.
We used orange, J-11 Rapalas, Flicker shads and Thin Fins.
The fish are in thick.

I have heard multiple reports the ditch has been very productive. Seems logical with the warm winter. Thanks for the report Mike!

Newer to thesouthend.org Have much appreciated this forum and all the resources on the website. Thought I would finally share as this has been my first year fishing Lake Michigan, shore and boat. Went Saturday 2/1 with a friend out the Ditch. (Portage Marina is very nice) Four of my five cohos hit on pink lemonade Rapalas. Didn't take too long and were mostly caught out front of the ditch, My biggest measured 17-3/4" Before it got too rough, we went east, past some big rocks (sorry, I don't know names of places) for some laker action. I (tan Frogg Toggs) hit one within minutes and friend caught his beautiful one just a bit after, gold 3/8 and 1/2 oz blade baits. Another 3-some over by us hit 10-12 during their time there. (all returned safely back) SO MUCH FUN!!! Water was rough heading home and DNR gave us a thorough boat check upon loading.

Thanks for the update. Good to hear positive things during a poor hard water season.
Fish on!

Cool sunglasses! Don't know if they are quality, but it sure makes a good photo. Congrats on the fish, too.

Quick question about the public marina there in Portage. Are the ramps available on weekends during the off-season? Tomorrow looks to be too nice to not shake off the cold. I'm coming from Joliet and wont make the drive if the ramps are closed. Thanks.

ramps are always available. $10 to launch. If nobody is there (which will be likely) then there is a drop box for the launch fee.
