My buddy and I set lines about 9am yesterday just west of the break wall of the port. We set two lines for coho and 4 for kings. Trolled out and east to the donut and then back west to the port. No bait to be found picked up one coho and hit my first king on my boat out in front of the donut in 50 FOW. Popped a downrigger @ 33' with a chrome J plug back about 50'. What an amazing fish and fight, took about 15 min to boat him and we almost botched the net job. 18 lbs on the handheld scale. Slow after that picked up a few more coho but no more king bites. Ended the day 4 of 6 cohos with a couple of throwbacks and 1 king. Where did all the bait go? Seemed like most people were fishing further out then the last couple of times.

Nice fish! Now to get you oriented - the Ditch is "Burns Waterway" aka Burn's Ditch which is the river you motor down to the lake from Portage Marina.

To the east is the "Port" which is the Port of Indiana and used to be called Burns Harbor before they built the Port in the 70s.

The water intake you mentioned is "the donut" which, since the Bailey Power Station is shut down no longer takes in water (that I know of) and so it's just a steel and rock island.

Head on east and you'll come to the "pavillion" which is the beach building at Dunes State Park.

BNature thank you for helping me out. I will edit my report so it is more accurate! I'm not sure why I though the ditch was east of the port anyway appreciate the info that will help me a lot!!

Also thanks for the tip the other day about chrome j plugs. I had one in my box but have never run it. Put it on today and bam got pounded.
